How to Submit High School Transcripts

Ask your high school to send us your official, sealed high school transcript or high school equivalency record (GED, HiSET, TASC). Transcripts can be sent to admissions@jjc.edu.

Joliet Junior College accepts home school or high school transcripts from entities that are state or regionally accredited.  For more information, please see High School Transcript Validation. 

Students with Foreign Transcripts

You must have your foreign transcript evaluated. JJC recommends sending your foreign transcripts in to be evaluated by the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services (NACES) approved evaluator of your choice. If you have taken any high school courses, which may waive a college course requirement, or have earned college credit at a school abroad, our Registrar office will only  accept a NACES report for evaluation. Current approved members can be found at www.naces.org. The evaluation MUST be a "Course by Course" evaluation translated into English.

You must meet at least one of these requirements to become a new student:

• 18 years of age
• A high school graduate (or soon-to-be graduate)
• Earned your GED

Residency Policy Change

The JJC Board of Trustees revised the residency policy (Reference No. 3.2.1-3.2.5) to include non-citizen applicants in August 2014.

The policy states that undocumented students can attend JJC at an in-district tuition rate as long as they have lived in District 525 for at least 30 days before the start of the semester.

What to Know

If you want to take JJC classes for a semester to transfer back to your four-year school, you're considered a guest student. Typically, four-year university students do this in the summer to save money and get ahead.

1. Complete a JJC application. Under "Educational Goals," select "I only plan to complete one or several courses." Under "Select a Degree/Certificate," select "Non-Degree Seeking."

2. If the course(s) you want to take have prerequisites required (and you've already taken them at your primary institution), send an email  to gueststudents@jjc.edu that includes the following: 
   • Your name
   • Your JJC student ID
   • The course name, the course number and the section number for all classes you want to take
   • An attached copy of your unofficial transcript
3. Within two business days, you'll receive information from JJC about whether or not your prerequisite was met. If so, a waiver will be entered into the system and you will be able to register online.
4. Speak to your university and/or college advisor to find out about transfer guidelines for your program to ensure the transferability of JJC coursework at your school or Check Transferology to determine if a course will transfer to your home institution. Transferology is a free nationwide, web-based transfer information system that provides you with fast and accurate course and transfer information. Your university advisor can also provide you with the most up-to-date information.

• Home-Educated Student: Attend JJC after you complete your homeschool curriculum.
• January/Early Grads: Get a jump-start on earning college credit.
• Preparing for University during the Summer: Take a summer course and transfer the credits to the college/university you'll attend in the fall.
• Early Entry: Students age 17 or younger who receive permission from their high school may be able to take JJC classes early. If students are 18 and currently enrolled in high school, high school permission is still needed to take early entry courses. Students should meet with their high school counselor to learn more.

Students must complete the following steps no later than 14 days prior to the first day of the semester.

1. Discuss this with your high school counselor.
2. Complete a JJC application.

3. Complete an Early Entry enrollment form (PDF). Then, submit this form to the JJC Admissions Office. Email admissions@jjc.edu or mail to JJC Admissions Office, 1215 Houbolt Rd., Joliet, IL 60431.

   
    

Note: At its discretion, JJC may request to interview any applicant for the Early Entry Program. Placement testing may be required at the discretion of the department chairperson or the appropriate Dean.

How to Apply (F-1 Visa)

These steps are only applicable to those who are requesting or currently hold an F-1 student visa.  

After you have been admitted as a student at JJC, you will receive e-mail communication to complete the steps below to request an I-20, which is the immigration document needed to apply for an F-1 student visa.

1. Submit an International Student Application* On the application, you will find a Checklist that will help you keep track of when your admissions package is complete.
2. Once you complete the application, email it to intlstudent@jjc.edu or mail to: Joliet Junior College, International Student Services Office, 1215 Houbolt Rd., Joliet, IL 60431.

*If you hold a valid visa status other than F-1 and you have a social security number, then apply to JJC as a new student, following these instructions.

Admissions requirements

1. You must send the following original English proficiency test scores to JJC.
   • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Score: Minimum scores must meet or exceed a 60 iBT. TOEFL information can be found at ETS. JJC's destination code is 1346 to send transcripts.
   • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Score: Minimum score must meet or exceed a 6.0 (IELTS)
   • PTE Academic: Minimum score must meet or exceed a 44.  https://pearsonpte.com/ 
   • iTEP Academic Plus: Minimum score must meet or exceed a 3.7.  https://www.itepexam.com/
   • duolingo: Minimum score 95 https://englishtest.duolingo.com/test_takers 
   • Native English Speakers: If you are a citizen of an English-speaking country as identified by the U.S. government, you do not need to submit test scores.
   • Current International High School Students: If you're attending high school in the U.S. on an F-1 visa, you may submit ACT or SAT scores in lieu of the English Proficiency exam scores. 
   • Current International Students From Another College or University: If you're already attending college in the U.S. on an F-1 visa, you  may be exempt from submitting English Language Proficiency scores, except when transferring from an Intensive English Language Training/ESL program.
2. You must submit the following academic transcripts to JJC.
   • To prove U.S. high school equivalency: Students must provide official transcripts in a sealed envelope or proof of high school equivalency (GED). If high school was not completed within the U.S., then the transcript(s) must include a certified English translation. JJC reserves the right to request additional evaluation by a third-party service such as Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or World Education Services (WES), at the expense of the student, if necessary.
   • To prove college/university equivalency: If the student completed college level courses abroad, JJC will only accept 'course-by-course' credential evaluations conducted by a NACES approved organization such as ECE or WES. 
     • If some college/university credits were completed within the U.S., then the student should submit an official transcript in a sealed/signed envelope.
3. Photocopy of passport
   • End date on passport must be valid for at least six months into the future.  Include photocopies of any F-2 dependents that will also be accompanying the F-1 visa holder.

Requesting an I-20

1. All prospective students must submit financial documentation certifying immediate access to funding for at least one academic year of their studies pursuant to 8 CFR § 214.2
2. A student and/or sponsor(s) must submit an official original bank letter on bank letterhead certifying the account holder's name, type of account, current balance, and the date the statement or letter was issued.  Information contained in the document should be in English, however, the currency does not need to be converted into U.S. dollars.  The bank account being used for evidence of financial support may be in a sponsor's name and a student may have multiple sponsors.  Financial documents must be no more than six months old at the time of submission.  Download a sample bank letter (PDF). 
3. Student must complete and submit an Affidavit of Support.  Types of financial documents that can and cannot be accepted are listed on the Affidavit of Support.  
4. Additional documentation only for those students transferring to JJC from a U.S. high school or college/university:
   • Copies of all previous I-20s issued to you as an F-1 visa holder
   • All U.S. high school or college transcripts.  Include a copy of all high school/college transcripts from each U.S. institution attended. 
   • International Transfer-In Form (PDF)
     • Must be completed by the student as well as the student's current Designated School Official (DSO) upon acceptance to JJC. 
5. Completed documents may be sent to the International Student Services office at intlstudent@jjc.edu. 

Change of Status

If you are already in the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa type other than F-1, you will need to change your immigration status to F-1 in order to enroll in classes towards earning a degree from JJC.  For further assistance and information regarding the change of status process, please contact the International Student Services office at intlstudent@jjc.edu or (815) 280-2870.

Nursing Admission Requirements

Students must:

• Meet residency requirements.
• Complete the JJC Application.
• Submit official transcripts from any college/education training program attended before the nursing application deadline (if applicable).
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in prerequisites, general education and recommended courses for the program

Note to Nursing Applicants

CNA Requirement – Beginning with the June 1-15, 2024 application period and all future application periods, all applicants must have completed a CNA course or have completed the JJC NA 101 course. Applicants must have a CNA certificate and be eligible on the CNA Registry prior to the application period.

Vaccine Requirements

All nursing programs (CNA, RN, LPN, LPN Transition) strongly recommend that all students be fully vaccinated and boosted for Covid-19 prior to entrance into the program in order to complete clinical requirements of the program. Proof of other immunity and/or vaccination, a drug screen and criminal background check are also required and will be communicated to applicants when provisionally accepted into the program. If a student is accepted into the program and fails the criminal background check or drug screen and/or does not have the mandatory vaccinations, the student will be removed from the program.

If so, complete a transcript evaluation form. Make sure to select "Associate in Arts" and the correct applicant type located under the Transfer Evaluation Request Information section. Placement Test/ACT Scores

Students must meet at least one of following requirements. 

• Complete a JJC placement test or submit valid ACT scores or
• Complete the required developmental course sequence based on placement test scores (If Applicable) with a grade of "C" or better or
• Complete previous college credit in English and/or Math (from another institution)

Complete the Nursing Program Entrance Exam, ATI-TEAS 

The ATI-TEAS (Test of the Essential Academic Skills Version 7) exam evaluates math skills, reading comprehension, English and science proficiency.

If there are more students than available seats, a ranking system will be used to determine who gets admitted first (see below). Students who score below 82 will also be ranked. Minimum TEAS score is 60. 

After Taking the Exam
Schedule an appointment with a nursing advisor. Call 815.280.2435. Note: Make sure you have met placement test requirements and have submitted college transcripts first (if applicable).

Ranking System

Each eligible application will be given a number for anonymity. All demographic data will be removed. Applications are sent to the Nursing Admissions Committee.

When Will I Know If I've Been Accepted Into The Program?
Within 3-5 weeks of submitting the nursing application, students will receive an email sent to their JJC email account informing them if they qualified.

Applicants will be scored and ranked based on:

• TEAS Composite Score - weighted 40%
• Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher required on courses specific to the required general education courses. All courses must have a grade "C" or better. GPA will be weighted at 60%.

*If a class was taken more than once, the most recent grade will be used. If a student has "clepped" out of a class (CLEP Test), the grade will be counted as a "C"

This criteria is subject to change. It is the applicant's responsibility to review the criteria on a regular basis.

Transfer for Your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Students who want to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing should complete JJC's Associate of Applied Science degree first and then enroll in an RN to BSN program at a four-year college/university.

Another option for students is complete the Associate in Arts degree and transfer to a college/university with a pre-licensure nursing program or nursing major.

JJC has agreements with several institutions.

Thinking about becoming a nurse out of state?
Before you start at JJC, contact the nursing licensing agency in your chosen state. Ask them if JJC coursework meets requirements for you to to take a nursing exam in that state. Learn more about nursing state requirements

About the Nursing Application Process

The Nursing program has special admissions criteria and limited enrollment. Applicants are responsible for making sure they meet all requirements of the program and that they provide all requested documents to JJC. Only complete files will be considered.

How to Apply to the JJC Nursing Program

1. Complete a JJC application. Then, follow all of the steps outlined on our Admitted Students page.
2. Check to see if you have met all the admission criteria, including taking the TEAS exam (see tab above).
3. Complete an online nursing application. The application will only be accessible during the Application periods listed below.
    

Application Periods

For Nursing (R.N) - Associate in Applied Science 

Start Classes in the Fall Semester (August 2025)
Apply between May 15-31, 2025 (transcripts must be submitted by March 1, 2025)

Start Classes in the Spring Semester (January 2026)
Apply between October 15-31, 2025 (transcripts must be submitted by August 1, 2025)

If a student is not admitted into the program, they must apply again.

• Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher required on courses specific to the required general education courses. All courses must have a grade "C" or better. GPA will be weighted at 60%.

*If a class was taken more than once, the most recent grade will be used. If a student has "clepped" out of a class (CLEP Test), the grade will be counted as a "C" 

Students who are JJC district residents will receive priority when ranking. If there are seats available after in-district students are awarded a seat, then students who are out-of-district will be awarded a seat based on their ranking.

How to Apply to the JJC LPN to RN Pathway

1. Complete a JJC application. Then, follow all of the steps outlined on our Admitted Students page.
2. Send a copy of your LPN license by mail to the JJC Admissions Office 
3. Complete all required General Education courses with a grade of "C" or better.
4. Check to see if you have met all the admission criteria, including taking the TEAS exam (see tab above).
5. Complete the online LPN Transition Application. This application will only be accessible during the following Application periods listed below.

Start Classes in the Spring 2026 Semester

• A current physical examination which includes specified immunizations and laboratory work
• Verification of successful completion of CPR for Healthcare Providers.

Admissions Procedure

Step One: Meet these criteria

Students must:

• Meet residency requirements.
• Complete the JJC Application.
• Submit official transcripts from any college/education training program attended before the Radiologic Technology application deadline (if applicable).
• Provide JJC with a high school transcript or high school equivalency record (GED, HiSET, TASC) 
• When you apply on-line in the month of November - you must have the following completed or currently in the courses, PSYC 101, BIO 149 or BIO 151, BIO 250 and ENG 101 with a grade of "C" or better
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
• Placement Test or previous college credit in MATH 094. Students must place into MATH 098 or better; if student places in MATH 094, it must be completed before application to the Radiologic Technology program. MATH 101 and MATH 107 are not accepted in place of MATH 094. MATH 098 is not required.
• Students must take the TEAS test in-person on a JJC campus in order to be considered into the program. Test results from remote testing or proctoring will not be accepted.  TEAS deadline is November 30th. 
• Call the Student Advising Center at 815-280-2673 to make an appointment, or if you’ve completed placement testing or your college’s transcripts are already evaluated, email xray@jjc.edu to schedule an advising session with the Radiologic Technology program advisor. 
• Important: Depending on your TEAS score, you may be granted guaranteed or provisional admittance into the program. Once you have been accepted, ask your advisor to change your major to radiologic technology. In order to be eligible for financial aid, you must have a radiologic technology major code on file.

Step Two: Did you complete other educational/training programs before JJC?

If so, complete a transcript evaluation form. Then, order official transcripts from your former college to be sent to the JJC Transfer Credit Evaluation Office. Questions? Email transfercredit@jjc.edu.

Step Three: Complete the Nursing TEAS Exam

The ATI-TEAS (Test of the Essential Academic Skills Version 7) exam evaluates math skills, reading comprehension, English and science proficiency. 

• Scores from other schools will not be considered.
• Students must take the TEAS test in-person on a JJC campus in order to be considered into the program. Test results from remote testing or proctoring will not be accepted.
• Must be scheduled in advance and paid online.
• Must be completed by the last day of the application period at the latest (Nov. 30).
• JJC encourages applicants to only take the exam one time per semester (if the TEAS test is taken multiple times in a semester, the sonography admissions committee will only consider the highest TEAS composite score and the highest TEAS math test score during that semester).

TEAS Scores & Eligibility
Students who score 82 or above on the TEAS composite will be guaranteed admission into the Radiologic Technology program when an application to the program is completed and all of the above requirements are met. In the event there are more students in the Guaranteed Admission category than available seats, a ranking system will be used.

Students who score 75 - 81 on the TEAS composite will be provisionally admitted to the Radiologic Technology Program. Provisionally admitted students will be admitted using the ranking system.

After Taking the Exam

Note: Make sure you have met placement test requirements and have submitted college transcripts first (if applicable).

Ranking System

Admissions to the Radiologic Technology program will be determined by a point ranking system. Each eligible applicant will be given a number for anonymity by the admissions office. Applications will be sent to the Radiologic Technology Admissions Committee to be scored and ranked by the following criteria:

• TEAS test score -TEAS composite weighted 35%; TEAS reading weighted 20%
• GPA (calculated on courses required for the Radiologic Technology program only) - weighted 25%
• Number of general education classes completed (science courses weighted heavier) - weighted 20%
   

Additional Class Requirements

These additional general education courses are not required to be considered for admission, but they are required for completion of the Radiologic Technology AAS Degree. Taking these courses will add points to the applicant's overall score used in the ranking system above.

Students Must Meet Residency Requirements

• Then complete the attendance verification with the 3 secret words.
• Call the Student Advising Center at 815-280-2673 to make an appointment, or if you've completed placement testing or your college transcripts are already evaluated, email ultrasound@jjc.edu to schedule a 30-minute advising session with Bonnie Oleksy, the sonography coordinator/advisor.

Step Two: Did you complete other educational/training programs before JJC? 

If so, complete a transcript evaluation form. Make sure to select "Associate in Arts" and the correct applicant type located under the Transfer Evaluation Request Information section. Then, order official transcripts from your former college to be sent to the JJC Transfer Credit Evaluation Office. Questions? Email transfercredit@jjc.edu. Must be submitted by January 15.

Step Three: Complete the Nursing TEAS Exam

• When selecting the TEAS exam please choose "TEAS for Nursing Students".
• Must be scheduled in advance and paid online.
• Must be completed by the last day in February to be considered eligible.
• JJC encourages applicants to only take the exam one time per semester up to 3 attempts within a 5-year period.
   

TEAS Scores & Eligibility
Students who score an 86 or above on the TEAS Composite are guaranteed to be admitted into JJC's sonography program dependent on:

• Completion and passing of a background check and drug screen
• Verified attendance/viewing of the current application year’s informational session
• Other factors (see below)

If there are more guaranteed admission students than available seats, a ranking system will be used to determine who gets admitted first (see below). Students who score below 86 will also be ranked. 

Ranking System

Admissions to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography AAS Program will be determined by a point ranking system. Each eligible application will be given a number for anonymity. All demographic data will be removed. Applications are sent to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admissions Committee to be scored and ranked by the following criteria:

• TEAS composite score - weighted 42%
• TEAS Math sub-test score - weighted 8%
• GPA (calculated based on courses required to enter the sonography program) - weighted 25%
• Number of required general education classes completed - weighted up to 20%
• Additional allied health held licensures - up to 5%
   

Additional Class Requirements

These additional general education courses are not required to be considered for admission, but they are required for completion of the AAS Degree. Taking these courses will add points to the applicant’s overall score used in the ranking system above. Higher grades in these classes will earn more points. All courses must be passed with a 'C' grade or higher.

• BIO 251: Human Anatomy and Physiology II
• ENG 101 (or ENG 102): Rhetoric
• PSYC 101: General Psychology
   

If these courses are not completed at the time of application, they must be completed prior to starting sonography courses in the fall.

Students must meet the following prerequisites prior to application.

Please read carefully to ensure all steps have been completed.

• Current JJC application (under Health & Occupational Science Students) on file.
• Must meet residency requirements as defined by Joliet Junior College. In-district students have first right of admission. Out of district students will be admitted if spaces are available.
• High School transcript or high school equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) on file with the Admissions Office verifying completion.
• All college transcripts (other than JJC) must be evaluated and placed on record by January 1st, prior to submission of your application for the program. This process can take up to four weeks.  Official college transcripts should be mailed to Joliet Junior College, Academic Credentials Office, 1215 Houbolt Road Joliet, IL 60431-8938. Students must complete a Transcript Evaluation Form in order to have their transcripts evaluated.
• Completion of BIO 149 or Bio 151, BIO 250, BIO 251 and ENG 101 with a grade of “C” or better by the end of the fall semester before the application deadline. 
• Minimum CUM GPA of 2.0 or above.
• Completed Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS – version 7)
  • Students must take the Nursing TEAS test in-person on a JJC campus in order to be considered into the program. Test results from remote testing or proctoring will not be accepted.
• Essential Skills of a Respiratory Therapist are and applicants must be able to:
  • Lift more than 50 pounds; push, pull, bend and stoop routinely.
  • Perform multiple motor tasks simultaneously. Fine and gross motor skills sufficient to handle equipment and provide safe and effective patient care; steady arm and hand movements while manipulating objects or assisting patients
  • Distinguish audible sounds to assess and monitor patient sounds and alarms
  • Adequately view monitors, including color distinctions, to assess patient and equipment function
  • Work standing on their feet 80% of the time and able to stand in an upright position for up to 120 minutes at a time, able to work quickly from place to place to perform patient care
  • Interact compassionately and effectively with the sick or injured
  • Tactile ability to perform and assess patient response to therapy
  • Communicate effectively with patients and other health care professionals
  • Organize and accurately perform the individual steps in respiratory therapy procedures in the proper sequence.
     

1. Students who score 82 or above on the TEAS composite will be guaranteed admittance into the Respiratory Care Program, contingent on the results of their background check and drug screening when an application to the program is completed and the above requirements (see #1) are met. In the event there are more students in the Guaranteed Admittance category than available seats, a ranking system will be used (see #3).
2. Admissions to the Respiratory Care AAS Program will be determined by a point ranking system. Each eligible applicant will be given a number for anonymity by the admissions office. Applications will be sent to the Respiratory Care Admissions Committee to be scored and ranked by the following criteria:
   • GPA (calculated on courses required for the Respiratory Care Program (weighted 25%).
   • Number of required general education classes completed (weighted 25%). TEAS composite (weighted 30%) and science (weighted 20%) scores. Qualified applicants will be required to take the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills Test (TEAS). The fee for this test is paid by the applicant. The TEAS (version 7) test needs to be completed by March 31st. We encourage applicants to only take the exam one time per semester. If the TEAS test is taken multiple times in a semester, the committee will ONLY consider the score from the initial time it was taken during that semester. Please refer to the Testing Services web page under TEAS testing for more information. TEAS exam must be taken on campus through the testing center.
   • SOC 290 Cultural Diversity in America, 3 credit hours, is an additional general education course and is not required to be considered for admission but is required for completion of the AAS Degree.  
3. Upon admission to the Respiratory Care AAS program, all students are required to have on file in the Department of Health and Public Services:
   • A current physical examination which includes specified immunization and required laboratory work.
   • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider CPR card.
   • Current criminal background check and drug screen.

If granted admission, the applicant will be informed as to when these requirements must be completed. The applicant does not need to complete these requirements until notified.

The online Respiratory Care application for the AAS degree program will be available the month of March, for the opportunity to begin the program in Fall. If a student is not admitted to the program or chooses to defer acceptance, the student will need to re-apply the following year. No application will be kept on file after the start of classes.

The Respiratory Care AAS degree program has special admission criteria and limited enrollment. Applicants are responsible for ensuring the requirements are met and all necessary documentation is on file. Only complete files will be considered.

Students who have met the above admissions criteria are free to apply to the Respiratory Care Program beginning the month of March to enter the point ranking system.

Joliet Junior College holds its recruiters to the code of conduct and ethical practices established by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).
