AET: Applied Engineering Technology

  • Architecture, Manufacturing & Automotive

The AET Program is a dual enrollment program, and is designed only for high school seniors.

This is a high school senior only program which is offered in partnership with WILCO, GAVC, Joliet Township High Schools, and Joliet Junior College. The program is held at the JJC Main Campus.

Please note: Students are required to be pre-approved from their High School Counselors prior to signing up.

Students must have their own transportation to attend.

The AET program will provide students with the core education and technical hands-on skills they need to pursue careers in the advanced manufacturing sector. The demand for highly skilled programmers, operators, machinists, and engineering roles continues to grow every day right here in JJC's district. Students will participate in three separate college courses building skills and awareness in design theory, print reading, manual machining, and CNC machining. Students will need their own transportation to and from class. They will be dual enrolled earning high school and college credit for MFG 101, MFG 111, and MFG 115, for a total of 11 credits.

For course descriptions, see the JJC Catalog

What Will I Learn?

Students in the AET program, at Joliet Junior College Main Campus, will have an opportunity to focus on the application and implementation of design theory. During the first semester, students will participate in both classroom and hands-on shop experience. In the shop, emphasis is placed on exercises and projects that embody the basic processes and operations in using hand tools, layout tools and machine tools such as vertical saw, drill presses, engine lathes, vertical milling machines, and surface grinders. Students will earn 4 credits for MFG101 (Precision Machine Technology I)

During the second semester, students will acquire knowledge and skills in the use of numerical control and computer numerical control milling and turning machines in MFG 111. In the MFG 115 Blueprint reading class work includes the principles of orthographic projection, dimensions and tolerances, the application and interpretation of machining, and welding symbols and specifications. Students earn 7 credits for MFG 111 and 115 (Numerical Controls and Blueprint Reading for Manufacturing and Welding).

What is Unique About Our Program?

  • Safety and lab equipment provided by JJC.
  • Participation and invitation to JJC career events and industry visits highlighting advanced manufacturing companies.
  • Participation in career skills resources including resume, interview skills, etc.
  • Potential for summer internships

Earn College Credit: Students will be dual enrolled earning high school and college credit for MFG 101, MFG 111, and MFG 115, for a total of 11 credits.
