Job Description | SUMMARY: The Environmental Health Intern will be responsible for the operation of the setting mosquito traps, collecting mosquitos for testing, sorting out the desired species, and collecting dead birdsto be sent to State laboratoriesfor testing. This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Environmental Health and will require a schedule of 7.5 hour daysfor 2 days a week during the peak period. A Grundy County vehicle will be provided for necessary travel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: From May 1, 2022, through October 15, 2022, intern will assist the EH staff in completing grant deliverables for the IDPH Vector Surveillance grant. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collecting and sorting mosquitos, 2. Maintaining mosquito traps, 3. Collecting dead birds for testing, 4. 7.5 hours per day, 2 days a week (Tuesday and Friday) |

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED, with an interest in Public Health and/or the field of Environmental Health SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A valid Illinois Driver’s License and auto insurance LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, ordinances, technical releases, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in sometimes unique situations.
