The Grundy County Chamber of Commerce – a member-driven association – serves the northwest region of Illinois by promoting tourism and economic development and is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life in our county.
This staff position offers a high potential opportunity for someone who knows how to generate membership growth and increase dues revenue.
Basic Skill Requirements
The primary responsibility of the membership engagement director will be the recruitment of new and retention of existing members through personal contact and the evaluation and development of member benefits. This position is required to support strategic marketing and development efforts within the Chamber.
This position reports directly to the President & CEO. Incumbent should have a self-starter attitude, customer-service appreciation and the ability to project a positive outlook at all times. Strong verbal skills are an absolute necessity. Some computer experience required. Individual must be able to work independently.
Job Responsibilities
Member Retention
Maintain a targeted retention rate of existing Chamber members.
Establish positive working relationships with member firms to support member retention; work with President & CEO and staff to establish and carry out a plan of personal contact for members.
Conduct member surveys to increase member awareness of member needs and benefits; evaluate and recommend new member benefits to the President & CEO.
Plan and execute regularly scheduled New Member Orientations.
New Membership Recruitment
Attain sales quota in new membership sales, properly complete sales and retention activity report each week.
Main point of contact for prospective members.
Maintain active contact with members; identify opportunities to upgrade accounts and anticipate extra attention needed to retain a membership.
Represent the Chamber at appropriate conventions, meetings, networking events, etc.
Responsible for sales of and distribution of new resident and new business welcome programs – includes recruiting participating business for welcome packages and delivery.
General Membership Responsibilities
Assist in the planning and implementation of chamber programming, including sale of non-due revenue products such as banner and other advertising program sales.
Responsible for working within membership budget.
Knowledge of all Chamber benefits; field membership benefit questions.
Responsible for developing and maintaining membership and sales materials
Assist with marketing plan and the development of new programs for member services and retention.
Assist with office coverage.
Manage the Ambassador Club
Occasionally supervise committees as needed.
Attendance required at various events and meetings throughout the month.
Other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
