Job summary
Railroad Switchman / Conductor / Locomotive Engineers are responsible for safe movement & placement of railcars within the facility. Responsibilities also include communicating with operations for Blue Flag placement and loading locations for all interplant railroad switching. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that all work is done in a safe manner and that all safety rules take precedence over any other work. It is your responsibility to maintain a safe working environment for you and all employees. This includes identifying safety hazards, avoiding unsafe work, and problem solving.

Summary of essential job functions
This job includes the following duties and any other as assigned by current manager:

Follow all safety rules and regulations

Participate in all safety meetings

Operate all interplant rail movement adhering to A&R Terminal
Railroad Operating Procedures & Safety Rules

Ensure total customer satisfaction

Complete daily inspections of equipment

Must be knowledgeable on how to use all equipment necessary to complete any task given daily

Maintain the cleanliness of the switching locomotive & rail track areas

Communicate any problems or concerns you may have with equipment or processes

Immediately acknowledge and/or accept responsibility for damage to product, equipment, etc.

Inspect railcar couplings, brakes, air hose and junction boxes, rail tracks, and the Locomotive/Rail King

Adhere to and enforce all company policies

Responsible for taking direction from Manager/Supervisor and/or Railroad Coordinator

Responsible for any other duties as assigned by management
Minimum requirements
High School diploma / Associate Degree preferred

Previous experience as a Railroad Switchman / Conductor / Locomotive Engineer

Basic knowledge and experience working in an industrial setting

Strong understanding of rail track switching and track systems

Good understanding of train air and brake systems, as well as locomotive power systems

Computer proficient in Excel spreadsheets

Vision Requirements
Constant need to observe areas needing attention/correction. Read cautionary labels and respond to written instructions from staff

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Observe and assist in general rail maintenance

Observe and report problems throughout facility

Hearing Requirements
Must be able to hear things clearly and be able to receive verbal instructions

Speaking Requirements
Constant need to verbally communicate

Working Environment
Outdoors (80% to 100% of the time) in all conditions, often for extended periods of time

Reasoning Development
Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to a variety of practical situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may occasionally involve minor deviations. Needs ability to think rationally beyond a specific set of instructions

Physical Requirements
