First Generation College Student LogoApproximately 200 students can benefit from our Student Support Services (Trio SSS) each year. Those who participate receive benefits such as personal advising, access to helpful workshops, information about financial aid, individualized tutoring, transfer support, mentoring, college visits, scholarships and much more.

To participate in this program...

You must: 

  • Be a U.S. citizen

You must also meet at least one of these requirements:

  • have a family household income that meets guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education
  • be a first-generation student (your parents do not have a bachelor's degree)
  • have a documented disability

    Feb 8th (H-Bridge 10:00am-3:00pm) African Bazaar: Join CMAS in supporting minority-owned businesses & peruse & purchase authentic African apparel, jewelry & other goods representing the motherland.

    Feb 13th & Feb 21st (A-1002 11:30am-12:30pm) Join the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in our Racial Healing Circles - a unique space to address deep-seated wounds of racism and discrimination. Delve into core issues affecting our workplaces and communities, uncovering the roots of pain while fostering hope for a brighter more equitable future.     Feb 16th Black Teen Summit (Event Center 9:00am-1:30pm) CMAS invites area high school students for our annual 12th Black Teen Summit. The Black Teen Summit shows students the opportunities that are available through higher education while engaging in a dialog about today's intriguing educational topics.

    Feb 23rd Black Excellence Gala with Black Student Union (Lower-level J Bldg. 6:00pm-10:00pm) The Black Excellence Gala will unite Black Student Union organizations from various to celebrate Black excellence and culture while fundraising for scholarships that support the Black community at JJC. Please join us for a festive evening of networking, music, food and dancing in a sophisticated atmosphere. Attire: formal/semi-formal.
