• Assist teachers with day to day classroom operations such as cleaning, changing diapers, daily preparations, engaging children in activities, teaching good hygiene and manners, decorating, serving meals and snacks
• Supervise the safety and well-being of the children at all time, indoors and outdoors. Never leave children unattended.
• Maintain a clean and odor free classroom; swept, mopped, and vacuumed.
• Serve as a role model for the children.
• Ensure proper care of the building, equipment and supplies.
• Diapering procedures must be followed.
• Handwashing procedures must be followed.
• Follow all protocols and procedures of Playhouse Academy.
Base Requirements
• Pass background clearance through fingerprinting
• Maintain a complete, current DFCS file
• Complete all required orientation from DCFS and Playhouse Academy, LLC.
• Maintain current CPR and first aid. This training is free and your time is paid, if it is completed through Playhouse Academy. If you fail to go to your scheduled training date, you will be required to get the training on your own within 30 days from that training date.
• Attend monthly staff meetings
• DCFS physical with proof of immunizations and TB test (physical repeated every 2 years)
• Staff shall be able to demonstrate:
 Emotional maturity when working with children
 Cooperation with the purposes and services of the program
 Respect for children and adults
 Flexibility, understanding and patience
 Physical and mental health that do not interfere with child care responsibilities
 Good personal hygiene
 Frequent interaction with children
 Listening skills, availability and responsiveness to children
 Sensitivity to children's socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, and individual needs and capabilities
 Use of positive discipline and guidance techniques
 Ability to provide an environment in which children can feel comfortable, relaxed, happy and involved in play, recreation and other activities
 Skills to help children meet their developmental and emotional needs
 Skills in planning, directing, and conducting programs that meet the children's basic needs.
Education Requirements
• A high school diploma or GED
• Complete continuing education requirements every year

Professional Duties
• Work cooperatively with other staff and outside consultants.
• Read and follow all DCFS standards.
• Read and follow all Playhouse Academy policies and procedures.
• Comply with all NAC accreditation standards.
• Report any special needs or problems of children to the supervising teacher.
• Work cooperatively with the supervising teacher regarding any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect and report to DCFS.
• Be respectful and courteous to parents. The supervising teacher will address all concerns of any child with the parent.
• Maintain confidentiality with all information that is obtained at the center.
• Attend all meetings, seminars, and workshops punctually and be present and ready to learn.
• Maintain a good public image.
• Remain flexible in hours available to work and groups of children that you work with.
• Utilize time effectively.
