About National Louis University
National Louis University is one of the oldest and most progressive universities in Chicago. We offer more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs through four colleges: the National College of Education, the College of Professional Studies and Advancement, the Kendall College of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management and the Undergraduate College. We are one of the most diverse universities in the Midwest, helping students of all ages and backgrounds achieve their personal and professional goals.
A Pioneering History
National Louis University was founded on the principle that a quality education can transform lives, careers and communities. More than 130 years ago, education pioneer and social reformer Elizabeth Harrison opened a kindergarten training school to promote early childhood education, then considered a radical idea. Harrison’s groundbreaking work helped launch the National Parent-Teacher Association and the Head Start program, and the National College of Education (NCE) became the first university in Illinois to offer a four-year teaching degree. Thanks to a large donation from philanthropist Michael W. Louis, the school added two more colleges and became National Louis University in 1990.
NLU Today
A lot has changed in the past 130 years, but the mission of NLU remains the same: to provide a superior education that makes a difference. We serve more than 8,000 students at seven locations in Illinois and Florida. We work hard to improve schools and businesses through community partnerships and applied research. And we are proud of the 65,000 living alumni who are using their NLU education to serve others.

About Western Governors University:
Bridging the gap between talent and opportunity.
Here at WGU, we believe that talent is universal—even if opportunity isn’t. Higher education is the best way to bridge that gap, but traditional higher ed wasn't built for the realities facing many of today’s students. So we created a university focused on expanding access to education around the country. We've innovated with students in mind, giving them the flexibility and freedom they need to succeed in today’s workplace.
We’re the first university where all bachelor’s and master’s degrees are competency-based, with online courses designed in partnership with leading employers. We’re nonprofit, driven entirely by a mission to serve students—in fact, it’s right there in our name. We’re called Western Governors University because we were created by a group of U.S. governors, an innovative solution to their states’ demand for high-quality, outcomes-oriented higher education.
