JJC Romeoville Campus to Celebrate 30th Anniversary

Joliet Junior College (JJC) will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Romeoville campus location Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  

The public is welcome to attend this event which will include self-guided tours of the programs and services available at the Romeoville location, plus drawings, giveaways, refreshments and trick-or-treating. JJC President Dr. Clyne Namuo will be joined by the JJC Board of Trustees as well as community leaders from across District 525 and the Romeoville-area.  

“The entire campus and our partners from Main Campus are excited to showcase the features and programs offered here,” said Dr. Stephanie Braun, dean of academic intervention and support. “The Romeoville campus is rapidly becoming a hub for all things health, tech and business-related. This anniversary is an opportunity to re-introduce Romeoville to our surrounding communities and show them all we have to offer!” 

The northern-most campus is home to University Partnerships and Degree Acceleration department, a 3D printing and virtual reality lab, cybersecurity courses and new certified nursing assistant (CNA) labs. The campus is also utilized by several area businesses and elected officials who capitalize on the central location and available meeting space.  

Two four-year institutions, Roosevelt University and Southern Illinois University, have opted to utilize the Romeoville campus and offer coursework in select bachelor's and master’s degree programs at this location.  

“Thanks to the University Partnership and Degree Acceleration department, a student could earn their associate degree from JJC and then pursue their bachelor's or master’s degree right here at the JJC Romeoville campus,” said Braun.  

Romeoville is the college’s first permanent satellite campus. Before the 1992 groundbreaking for the current location, the Romeoville campus community was served through temporary leases at the Bolingbrook Town Center and Valley View School in Romeoville. In the early 1990s, northern Will County was the fastest-growing area of District 525, prompting the need for a permanent north campus. The campus was expanded to its current format in 2017.  

“JJC has a strong history of listening to its constituents and meeting the needs of the community it supports,” said JJC President Dr. Clyne Namuo. “Thirty years later, Romeoville campus is a testament to the college’s commitment to provide high-quality, affordable education that is responsive to workforce and community needs.”  

The evening of Tuesday, Oct. 24 will include the opportunity to become acquainted not only with programs at Romeoville but also many departments and support services that are available to JJC students. This event is an opportunity to visit this satellite campus and find your future with Joliet Junior College. After the program, guests and children are invited to trick-or-treat through the halls as they explore the campus. The event is free of charge.
