JJC Establishes New On-Campus Safety Procedures

While Joliet Junior College classes are primarily online for the fall 2020 semester, current and prospective students can now access certain services on campus.

As part of Phase 4 of the state’s Restore Illinois plan, employees have begun staggered schedules on campus. With limited office staffing, those who need to visit campus are asked to schedule an appointment so the office can prepare for your visit. Remote student services remain available and are encouraged.

In anticipation of Phase 4, JJC implemented several new safety standards that visitors and employees are required to observe when on campus. The college has detailed these procedures in an informational video.

4 Ws of Safety at JJC

Walk in, Get Temperature Taken | Wash Your Hands | Watch Your Distance | Wear Your Mask

Upon arriving on campus, a hands-free thermometer will take guests’ temperatures. The device reads a person’s temperature at their tear ducts and displays a reading. A fever is considered 100.4 degrees or higher. A campus police officer will be on site to walk you through the process. The device is positioned so that only the guest and the officer will see the display screen.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, everyone on campus is asked to wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds. Each bathroom’s automatic dryers have been turned off and paper towel dispensers have been installed. JJC has made hand sanitizer available at various locations across campus.

Distance floor markers and directional arrows are visible in high-traffic areas across campus, as well as in office spaces to ensure proper spacing. The markers are positioned six feet apart in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Employees, students and visitors are required to wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth when entering campus buildings and while in common areas across campus. Masks are available at the temperature stations if needed.

Fall classes begin Aug. 17, with flex start classes starting Aug. 31, Sept. 14 and Oct. 12. Contingent upon the state maintaining Phase 4 of its Restore Illinois plan, JJC will conduct classes in the following ways: All fall lecture courses will be online line. Courses scheduled with a combination of lecture and lab should be delivered in a hybrid format, with the lecture portion online and the lab portion face-to-face. Lab-only courses will be delivered face-to-face.
