Joliet Junior College (JJC) is proud to announce that it has been named a Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges winner for 2025 by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
JJC is one of just 16 community colleges in the nation to receive this prestigious honor, which recognizes institutions for their commitment to best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments and meaningful community engagement.
This marks the second time JJC has earned this distinction, having previously been recognized in 2023.
Founded as the nation’s first public community college, JJC offers a purpose-driven workplace rooted in community, belonging and student success. Employees thrive in a culture centered on equity, collaboration and wellness. The College’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is evident through its DEI office, robust employee resource groups and nationally recognized programs to ensure every voice is valued.
“The College's continued dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for both students and staff has once again set it apart as a leader in the community college and higher education sector,” said Judy Connelly, chief human resources officer.
JJC has earned numerous accolades for its efforts, including the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award and the Charles Kennedy Equity Award for advancing retention and engagement among Black and Hispanic students.
Staff benefit from strong professional development opportunities, a collaborative work culture and comprehensive benefits — including affordable healthcare, generous time off, tuition assistance and retirement planning. Through its efforts to foster cultural awareness and open dialogue, JJC continues to create a welcoming environment where students, employees and the broader community can thrive.
Award winners will be formally recognized on Monday, May 26, during the Opening General Session of NISOD’s 47th annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, taking place May 24–27 in Austin, Texas.
