Joliet Junior College (JJC) has been awarded $35,000 in scholarship funding from Constellation’s E2 Energy to Educate grant program to establish the Constellation Rising Stars Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship will support students with limited financial resources to enroll in the process control instrumentation technology (PCIT) and electrical/electronic automated systems (EEAS) programs at JJC.
"This scholarship is a game-changer for our students," said Joe Limon, career and technical education department chair. "Our PCIT and EEAS programs are known for delivering top-notch training that prepares students for high-demand careers. Thanks to Constellation, more students will now have the chance to access these programs and take their first steps toward a successful future."
JJC and Constellation recognize the high demand for skilled instrument technicians due to industry growth and workforce attrition. The Constellation Rising Stars Endowed Scholarship addresses this need by providing financial support to students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue college or career training. By supporting a diverse group of high school and community college students, the program helps them prepare for their careers and complete their education successfully, meeting both workforce demand and educational needs.
“As a leader in clean energy, we have a responsibility to invest in the next generation and stimulate interest in the type of career opportunities and community impact that are possible in our industry,” said Kathleen Barrón, EVP and Chief Strategy and Growth Officer. “By supporting innovative, hands-on energy projects across our footprint, we’re empowering students to dive headfirst into STEM learning through experiences that will inspire them for years to come.”
The scholarship was among 20 projects awarded from eight states that align with the innovation themes outlined by Constellation.
"Together, Constellation and JJC are working to strengthen our community by building a skilled, educated workforce,” said Amanda Quinn, director of institutional advancement. “By reducing financial barriers, this scholarship enables students to pursue high-demand fields and achieve financial stability."
The first scholarships will be awarded in fall 2025, with five students each receiving $1,000 for a total of $5,000 awarded. The remaining $30,000 will establish the Constellation Rising Stars Endowed Scholarship, ensuring ongoing support for students. Beginning in fall 2026, approximately $1,200 will be awarded annually to one student from the endowed fund, providing lasting opportunities for future scholars.
"The entire JJC community is grateful to Constellation Energy for this award,” said Quinn. “This gift strengthens our relationship with Constellation and shows our shared commitment to helping students succeed."
The PCIT and EEAS programs at JJC equip individuals with the technical knowledge and experience needed for careers as instrument technicians and automation equipment operators, where they may design, control, operate and troubleshoot specialized processes for their employers.
Industry partners like Constellation are essential in shaping the curriculum and providing co-op and internship opportunities, which reinforces the program's dedication to academic excellence and career success. For more information about PCIT and EEAS at JJC, visit jjc.edu.
