Addictions Counseling

  • Social & Behavioral Sciences

JJC's Addictions Counseling program is a comprehensive and specialized educational journey designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills and ethical framework necessary to effectively address and treat various forms of addiction. This program is intended for aspiring addiction counselors, social workers and other professionals seeking expertise in the field of addiction and substance abuse.

What Will I Learn?

This program provides participants with a deep understanding of addiction as a complex psychosocial and biological phenomenon. Participants will engage in a blend of theoretical coursework, practical training, experiential learning and supervised practice, all aimed at fostering the development of competent and compassionate addiction counselors. These are topics necessary to be successful on the certification exam for the CADC (Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor) credential in Illinois.

What is Unique About Our Addictions Counseling Program?

JJC students now have the opportunity to pursue the Addictions Counseling AAS degree in their own community college district. A unique feature to JJC's degree is that, in addition to covering substance addictions (alcohol and other drugs), it also gives students the opportunity to learn about non-substance addictions (also called behavioral or process addictions).

What Are My Career Opportunities?

Graduates may find positions at substance abuse treatment programs and continue to pursue their educational and/or work experience requirements to earn the CADC credential.
