JJC's Veterinary Medical Technology program allows students to gain hands-on experience with real animals from local shelters. Cats and dogs are brought to campus each semester, where they are cared for by students and faculty, until they are adopted out to good homes.
The program is fully accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Upon completion of the VMTP, graduates are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) for licensure in Illinois.

Please note, we do not do cross-species testing unless requested. Animal behavior information is based on interactions with staff and students. All animals in Joliet Junior College’s care will be spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, Heartworm or FeLV/FIV tested, administered Flea/Tick and Heartworm prevention monthly, have intestinal parasite testing and treatment, and presurgical/wellness bloodwork run prior to adoption.
It is our policy to make certain that each person who adopts a pet is aware of the responsibilities of pet guardianship and is capable of and willing to accept those responsibilities morally, physically and financially. Not every person who desires to adopt a pet should do so. By completing our adoption form and questionnaire, you will aid us in determining if you and your family are indeed ready for pet guardianship, and if the pet of your interest would suit you and your lifestyle. Should you agree that adopting a pet is a commitment throughout the lifetime of your companion animal, please fill out our adoption application form and questionnaire.

Do you need a buddy to stare at the world out your front window? Spot is the man for that job!
Spot is curious and fun. He will hoard his toys because no one has taught him to share, but he’s happy to fetch his bone (only once or twice!). He is nervous around people wearing hats, so take your time – and offer him a treat to win him over.
Spot is happy to take a walk with you (give him time to sniff and potty) or snuggle in his bed while you work. We have worked on sit, stay, shake, spin, and place. Spot loves to learn new things!!
Spot doesn’t ask for a lot, just a soft spot, lots of water, and someone to be nice to him.
Spot needs a soft place to call his own and he’s ready to find his home.
2 year old | MALE| Pitbull mix- Vaccinated and neutered

Lucy is a high energy pup. She loves going on walks and sniffing all the things. She is nervous around new things, so give her time – and offer her a treat to win her over.
We think Lucy has some cattle dog in her, so she enjoys herding things. Teach her to use a tug toy to keep from nipping you.
Lucy is quick to learn! She is so smart and wants to learn all the tricks and behaviors. We have worked on sit, stay, shake, place, spin, fetch, and recall. Lucy is really good with her recalls.
She doesn’t eat her food quickly and she takes a treat so gently from your fingers.
Lucy is ready to find her home.
