As of April 23, the results are official for the Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees election. These top three vote-getters have won seats on the board:

• Nancy Garcia: 20147 votes - 17.74%
• John (Jake) Mahalik: 18774 votes - 16.53%
• Mike O’Connell: 18039 votes - 15.88%

Each took their oaths of office during a special meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wednesday. Garcia, of Romeoville, is new to the board and begins her first term. Mahalik, from Joliet, has been on the board since 2017. O’Connell, of Shorewood, joined the board in 2010.

Each elected member will serve on the JJC Board of Trustees for six years. Results became official after April 23, the last day for county clerks or board of election commissioners to canvass their election results.

The board also Wednesday recognized outgoing Trustee Patty Deiters and outgoing Student Trustee Alonso Rodriguez. Deiters was appointed to the board in December 2017 to fill the remaining term of a previous trustee. She did not seek election to a full term. The student representative, appointed annually, is a non-voting member of the seven-member board. Rodriguez was replaced by Shalma Marin.

The JJC Board of Trustees includes Bob Wunderlich, chairman; Maureen Broderick, vice chairwoman; John (Jake) Mahalik, secretary; Mike O’Connell; Alicia Morales; Dan O’Connell; Nancy Garcia, and Shalma Marin, student trustee.
