The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department welcomes the Keith Hampton Singers (KHS) and Band later this month to launch its fall Musica Viva Concert Series with a program of gospel music.
The highly acclaimed vocal ensemble is comprised of professional and semi-professional singers from all walks of life, and will be accompanied at JJC by a group of professional instrumentalists, all directed by Hampton.
“I have known Keith as a friend and colleague for many years,” said Phil Spencer, JJC professor of music and coordinator of the Musica Viva Series. “With a doctorate in music from Northwestern University, he is held in high regard as a conductor and composer throughout the United States, and is an enthusiastic advocate for music from the black church tradition. His concerts always leave us feeling deeply moved, inspired, and grateful!”
Hampton, DMus, is the founder and artistic director of Chicago Community Chorus and the president of Dr. KT Productions, Inc. in Chicago. He’s skilled as an organ performer, conductor, composer, educator, church musician, adjudicator, and workshop clinician. More information about Hampton’s musical activities can be viewed at www.drkeithhampton.com and www.chicagocommunitychorus.org.
For over 20 years, the Musica Viva Series has been the only college or university concert series in the greater Chicago area that is fully professional and entirely free-of-charge. There are three Musica Viva performances scheduled this fall. The Keith Hampton Singers will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16 in the Fine Arts Theatre at Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road.
