American Red Cross Blood Drive
Calling all vampires, witches and werewolves!
Joliet Junior College’s 6th Annual Haunted 5K Run and Walk, benefitting the JJC Foundation, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27. Wear your Halloween costume and race through 3.1 spooky miles of JJC’s beautiful Main Campus.
There is a new course design this year, but the course will still be paved and flat.
In addition to the adult race, there will be a Monster Dash, a one-mile race for children 12 and under. The Monster Dash will use chip-timing that pinpoints when runners cross the finish line, and each participant will receive a finisher’s medal.
“We hope that the entire community comes out for the last year of the haunted theme for our 5K. We are excitedly rebranding the race for 2020!” said Carrie Anderson, alumni relations and annual fund manager.
A plaque and $100 cash will be awarded to the top overall male and female in the 5K. The second and third place overall male and female will each receive a plaque and a small cash prize. The top male and female winners in each age group will receive a plaque only. Second and third place finishers in each age group will get a medal.
All participants are invited to stay for the post-race party for kids’ activities, food, entertainment and more.
Online registration is now open and will close Oct. 24 at midnight. The 5K is $30 from now until Oct. 20, then increases to $35. The Monster Dash is $10.
The first 500 race registrants in the 5K and Monster Dash combined will receive Haunted 5K winter hats.
Early packet pickup is Oct. 23-25. Details will be sent to registered participants closer to the event.
