Joliet Junior College (JJC) Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of John “Jake” Mahalik during the regular August board meeting. Mahalik is concluding eight years of dedicated service to the College.
Elected in 2019, Mahalik’s term was originally set to end in April 2025. A proud JJC alumnus, lifelong District 525 resident, and local business owner residing in Minooka, Mahalik has utilized his diverse experiences to ensure the best outcomes for the College and its students.
“On behalf of a deeply grateful College, I would like to thank Jake for his time and service over the last eight years,” said Dr. Clyne Namuo, JJC president. “His commitment to our students and community has made a significant difference, a sentiment that has been echoed by many members of the community and those connected to the College. We are deeply grateful for your contributions.”
As the board noted in the proclamation read in Mahalik’s honor, his leadership in these roles has been instrumental in guiding the college through significant growth and development.
Throughout his tenure, he has been a steadfast advocate for the College, serving as Chair of both the Building and Grounds Committee and the Finance Committee. His focus on fiscal responsibility, enrollment management and student success have been key tenets of his service.
During his time on the Board, Mahalik has championed JJC’s transformation through financial growth, the development of new facilities and programs and support for two college presidents.
“His unwavering advocacy for students and employees, coupled with his leadership through civil discourse and consensus building, has left an indelible mark on the College’s history and ensured its continued success into the future,” said Jim Budzinski, board chairman.
Mahalik’s contributions extend beyond JJC. His community service includes active involvement with the Joliet Rotary and Easter Seals, where he has contributed his time and leadership to enhance the community.

JJC is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, all of whom are elected from within the college’s seven-county district, which includes parts of Will, Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle, Kankakee, Livingston and Cook Counties.
