The Joliet Junior College (JJC) marketing and communications division won four Medallion awards at the 2024 National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 3 conference in Cleveland, Ohio.
The College placed in the following categories:
“Our team is thrilled to be recognized at this level by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations," said Kelly Rohder-Tonelli, executive director of strategic engagement at JJC. “Each award reflects the creativity, dedication and passion our division pours into telling the JJC story. From the vibrant visuals on our Romeoville campus to a viral social media campaign celebrating our students, these projects exemplify our commitment to engaging our community and highlighting the College’s unique programs and achievements. It’s an honor to see our work make such an impact.”
Winning silver in the interior signage/display (single or series) category is a set of wall decals for our Romeoville campus. Hallways in RMB were adorned with floor-to-ceiling graphics for adult education, cybersecurity and our Cisco program.
The Wiley bobblehead earned bronze in the novelty category. Created and designed for the JJC Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the bobblehead raised money for the JJC Foundation 50th Anniversary Endowed Scholarship.
Taking home the gold in the viewbook category is the College’s newest brag book, a 14-page promotional booklet that outlines JJC’s academic and athletic offerings, in addition to our plentiful student and community resources. The book is used by admissions, athletics and other departments at the College to help recruit students.
Last, but not least, is our viral mascot reveal TikTok, created to celebrate the graduation of former student leader Luke Van Duyne. The video won silver in the social media post or story B (video) category. Since its publication in mid-May, the video has garnered over 350,000 views on TikTok and over 10,000 on Instagram. It’s JJC’s most successful TikTok since the College joined the platform in early 2021.
NCMPR District 3 includes community colleges in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Ontario.
Over 500 submissions were considered for Medallion Awards in 47 categories. Award recipients are determined by judges, who are NCMPR members and/or industry experts. Judges vary from category to category. Submissions receive scores from 1-20 on various criteria, and the judges’ totals are averaged to determine the winners. The top three submissions in each category receive awards and are recognized at the district conference.
