JJC FY24 Budget Approved by Trustees

The Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees approved the college’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget at their June meeting.

“As we plan for the future, we must strike a balance between maintaining fiscal responsibility and ensuring that our college remains competitive in the rapidly changing educational landscape,” said JJC president Dr. Clyne Namuo. “It is essential that we continue to invest in our core educational programs and provide the necessary resources for comprehensive instruction, student support services and infrastructure development. By developing these areas, we can maintain our commitment to delivering a transformative education experience.”

In addition to JJC’s positive annual budget, community colleges across Illinois are applauding the State of Illinois’ investment in higher education via the FY24 budget. The state budget includes:

  • 7% increase or $19.4 million in funding for higher education, the largest increase in higher education funding in two decades
  • $100 million approved for Monetary Award Program (MAP) funds; the highest amount of funding applied to the program in the state’s history
  • 15% increase added to the Illinois Community College Board operating line for community colleges; the ICCB provides guidance and additional funding for community college operations

“The State’s investment in higher education is a significant and positive affirmation of JJC’s ability to inspire learning, transform lives and strengthen communities,” said Namuo.

Within the state budget JJC has been allocated more than $2.6 million in funds for capital improvements. Projects range from necessary aging building repairs and utility upgrades to mental health and wellness facility creation and funds for the ongoing support of 12x12x12, the college’s enhanced dual credit program.

“With this support the college will be better equipped to serve its students comprehensively; from fundamental safe access to campus buildings all the way to the intricacies of mental health and wellness management,” said Namuo. “JJC will also continue its important work of building a pathway to education by continuing the momentum of 12x2x12 across District 525.”
