  • Course Tutoring


    We offer scheduled one-on-one tutoring for almost any course at JJC--available both in-person and online.

    How to make an appointment: 

    1. Submit an Appointment Request Form.
    2. Send us an email at Tutoring@jjc.edu
      • Include your full name, course, and preferred date/time
    3. Call us at 815.280.2823--leave a message if we don't answer.
    4. Use the Navigate Student app with your JJC login to book directly

     

     

     

  • Drop-In Math Center-No Appointment Needed

    Stuck on a math problem? Not sure how to start your homework? You're not alone--and you don't have to figure it out on your own.

    The Drop-In Math Center is a supportive space where you can work on your math assignments at your own pace. No appointment is needed--just stop by during open hours at Main Campus.

    Here's how it works:

    • Sign-in at the front desk
    • Bring your homework, notes, or study materials
    • Grab a seat and get started
    • If you get stuck or have a question, one of our friendly math tutors is right there to help.

    Whether you need a quick explanation, a second look at a solution, or just a little encouragement to keep going, we're here for you.  Come as often as you like--no question is too small, and no pressure to have it all figured out.

    If you're working to improve your placement scores, you're not alone--and help is available

    Our Prep for Progress program offers:

    • One-on-one tutoring in math, reading and English
    • Access to learning modules and guided practice through ALEXS and Accuplacer
    • Testing strategies and helpful videos
    • Ongoing guidance from TLC tutors

  • Study Skills Tutoring

    Whether you're adjusting to college expectations, trying to keep up with a busy schedule, or just looking for a more effective way to study--we're here to help.

    Our Study Skills Tutoring sessions are all about helping you develop strategies that work for you.  You'll meet one-on-one with a trained tutor who can help you strengthen skills like:

    • Time Management--balancing classes, work, and life
    • Organization--keeping track of assignments, deadlines, and materials
    • Note-taking--learning how to take notes that actually help you study
    • Test-Taking Strategies--preparing for exams with less stress and more confidence
    • Reading and Retention--understanding and remembering what you read
    • Self-advocacy and Motivation--finding your focus and using your strengths

    You don't need to be struggling to benefit--these sessions are for anyone who wants to study smarter, not harder.  Whether you're just starting out or already on your way, we'll work with you to build tools that help support your learning and your goals.

    Writing can be challenging--but you don't have to do it alone.  Our writing tutors are here to support you at any stage of the writing process, for any kind of writing.

    Whether you're brainstorming, drafting, revising, or putting on the finishing touches, our tutors are here to help you develop your ideas, find your voice, and build confidence in your writing.

    We can help with:

    • Class Assignments--responses, essays, research papers, reflections, and more
    • Scholarship and Transfer Essays--make your story stand out
    • Cover Letters and Application Materials--for jobs, internships, or leadership opportunities
    • Planning, Outlining, and Organization--turn ideas into a structure that works

  • Quiet Study Room

    Need a calm place to focus, breathe, or reset? Our Quiet Study Room on Main Campus is open whenever we are--and it's here for you.

    This space is designed to support your well-being as well as your academics.  It offers:

    • Low lighting to reduce eye strain and create a peaceful atmosphere
    • Comfortable seating for reading, studying, or just taking a break
    • Quiet environment where you can concentrate without distractions
    • Relaxation tools like fidget items, grounding resources, and mindfulness guides
    • Biofeedback software to help you manage stress and build self-awareness

    Whether you're preparing for a big test, taking a moment between classes or just need a space to study in peace, the Quiet Study Room is open to you--no appointment needed.

  • Study Tools You Can Use

    We know that learning happens in lots of different ways--and having the right tools can make all the difference.  That's why we offer a variety of hands-on, tech-based, and traditional study resources to support your coursework.  

    These items are available during all open hours at our Main Campus location (C-2010) and in the Romeoville Learning Resource Center (RMB 1080). No appointment needed--just stop by and let us know what you need.

    Here's what you'll find:

    • Microscopes and prepared slides--great for biology review and lab practice
    • Laptops with 3D Software--for exploring models, anatomy, and visual learning tools
    • Biology Models--from cells to systems, get a closer and hands-on look at how it all fits together
    • Flashcards and Study Aids--perfect for active recall and group study sessions
    • Calculators--available for use on site for math and science work
    • Course Textbooks--access to assigned texts and additional reading materials for many subjects

    Whether you're reviewing for a test, working on an assignment, or exploring a topic more deeply, these resources are here to support your success.

    Looking for help outside of regular hours or from the comfort of your own space? Brainfuse offers free, online academic support--available to all JJC students through Canvas.

    Just click the Brainfuse link in any of your Canvas courses to get started!

    With Brainfuse, you can:

    Connect with a Live Tutor

    • Get one-on-one help in a variety of subjects, including math, writing, science, and more.
    • Schedule appointments or connect instantly during live tutoring hours.

    Get Writing Support

    • Submit papers for feedback or get real-time writing help.
    • Support is available for any writing project--essays, personal statements, cover letters and more.

    Practice and Review with Self-Guided Resources

    Tutoring is about helping others succeed--and learning more deeply in the process.

    We are looking for students who:

    • Are taking at least 6 credit hours at JJC
    • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Are curious, compassionate, and collaborative
    • Want to grow their communication and leadership skills

    We provide:

    • Paid training and nationally recognized CRLA certification
    • Flexible scheduling(up to 20 hours/week)
