Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association is providing financial assistance to Joliet Junior College students pursuing a future in the skilled trades industry.
The Joliet association has established the Three Rivers Endowed Scholarship in honor of Jerry Caamano, a $30,000 gift which celebrates its former executive director while removing financial barriers for those pursuing manufacturing careers. TRMA has been serving the needs of local manufacturers in Will and Grundy counties since its inception in 1933.
“JJC was selected since it serves Will and Grundy counties and offers several degrees and programs that directly connect to our local manufacturing members,” said Rudy Mahalik, TRMA board treasurer.
The scholarship will be awarded twice next year, in the spring and fall semesters. Thereafter, it will be endowed and awarded once per year to in the amount of approximately $1,200. This could go towards their in-district tuition, books or fees. Students completing the application must be majoring in one of the following JJC programs: Advanced Integrated Maintenance (AIM), Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT), Electrical/Electronic Automated Systems (EEAS), Process Control and Instrument Technology (PCIT), or Operations Engineering and Technician (OET).
“When we partnered with the JJC Foundation, the idea of an endowed scholarship came alive,” said Ray Woodworth, TRMA executive director. “The JJC Foundation staff walked us through the process, making it an easy and rewarding experience.”
Former director Caamano said TRMA and JJC have held a strong partnership over the years in advancing workforce readiness.
“As manufacturers continue to implement technology in the workplace, the skill set to compete for the high paying jobs and to successfully perform on the job have become more demanding,” said Caamano. “These courses provide the training for job candidates, as well as for incumbent workers, to upgrade their skills and succeed in their careers.”
In Fiscal Year 2018, the JJC Foundation awarded $677,000 in scholarships to over 650 students. To learn more about the Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association Endowed Scholarship contact the JJC Foundation Office at 815-280-2353 or www.jjc.edu/giving.
