The Joliet Junior College Community Band will present its annual Winter Concert on Sunday, December 4, at 3:00 p.m. in the Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Theatre at 1215 Houbolt Road. Or special guest will be JJC’s new President, Dr. Clyne Namuo as narrator on “The Night Before Christmas.” The band is under the direction of Professor Charles Morgan, Music Coordinator and Director of Bands at Joliet Junior College.
This concert will offer something for everyone: marches, transcriptions, and original compositions for band. The first half will include “Atlantic City Pageant,” an exciting march by John Phillip Sousa; the overture to “Le Nozze Di Figaro” arranged by Tohru Takahashi; “Dreams in the Dusk, a beautiful piece for concert band by BJ Brooks; and “Vesuvius” a powerful musical depiction of a fiery dance of the last days of the doomed city of Pompeii.
Our second half will begin with “Monkey Business,” a playful march by David Lovrien and “I Love my Love” by Gustav Holst. We will then start the seasonal celebration with “The Night Before Christmas” arranged by Randol Alan Bass, featuring JJC President Dr. Clyne Namuo as our narrator; “Jingle them Bells” by James Peirpont and arranged by Julie Giroux. We will then wrap up the concert with “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
