Dear Alumni and Friends,

The Joliet Junior College Alumni Association was founded in 1970 to foster stronger relationships with alumni, students, faculty, and the community. JJC's alumni and friends have given back to the college in many meaningful ways, including volunteerism, ambassadorship and financial support of the nation's first public community college.

We have embarked on an extraordinary journey. In 2006, we chartered the Student Alumni Association to increase awareness for the JJC Alumni Association and foster interaction between students and alumni to create a stronger affinity for JJC.

In 2007, the alumni board worked with Julie Allsopp, gift and scholarship specialist, to assist JJC students with the application process for scholarships and developed the annual JJC Scholarship Application event. Twenty-nine students who reside both in and out of District 525 received assistance at this event.

Each year we renew our friendships and strengthen loyalty for the college at our annual Alumni Brunch. Larry Walsh ('68) received the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award. Larry is not only the Will County Executive, but also a very supportive JJC alumnus. Our Susan H. Wood honorees were Natalie Miller, retired JJC Professor, English and World Languages Department, and adjunct faculty coordinator, and Myra Linden, writing specialist, Academic Skills Center and English instructor. The JJC Student Alumni Association also honored Professor Kim Karlberg, criminal justice instructor, with the first Prestige award, which honors faculty members for their extraordinary service to the college.

We will keep you informed as we continue our journey. Look for the JJC magazine in fall 2008. This publication will replace the Alumni Action newsletter.
