Test of Essential Academic Skills "TEAS" (TEAS "V")

The Test of Essential Academic Skills or TEAS, for short, is a general knowledge based exam that looks at a student's academic preparedness in 4 categories: Reading, Math, Science, and English.

Joliet Junior College uses this exam as a part of the competitive entry process for the Nursing, Radiologic Technology, and Veterinary Medical Technology programs.

The college uses and accepts scores from only "TEAS 'V'" as of December 1, 2009.  Previous versions of the TEAS (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0) are no longer administered by the college or used in our competitive entry processes.

The exam itself is computer based and has four individually timed sections taken back to back to back to back.

  • Reading 48 questions / 58 minutes
  • Math 34 questions / 51 minutes
  • Science 54 questions / 66 minutes
  • English 34 questions / 34 minutes

Currently the TEAS is only offered at Joliet Junior College to current qualified applicants in 1 of 3 competitive entry programs.  The TEAS is currently $40.00 at JJC.

Taking the TEAS at another institution?  Students may take the TEAS at another institution other than JJC.  Students should keep in mind several factors.  JJC only accepts scores from "TEAS 'V'". ATI charges to forward your transcripts for exams taken at other testing facilities to JJC (or any other college).  In addition it can cost as much as $130.00 just for the exam itself.
